Thankfulness

Posted by rvanterve in Untagged

As we consider thankfulness this month, I am amazed at how quickly we forget all the things we should be thankful for.  After attending the World Concern's Conference with the Grade 7 and 8 classes, I am reminded once again of all how priviledged we are and how we as a society have been blessed materially.
There are people in the world who have no understanding of fullness, because their stomachs have never been full.  There are people who have no understanding of what is means to be treated justly, because the world has not given them justice.  People who do not struggle to decide what to wear to work, because they only own the clothes they are wearing.

Yet perhaps these people have something we do not.  While God has blessed us with material things, others around the world have been blessed with a reliance on God that we in Western society often fail to understand.  God is their "daily bread", their peace and justice, their warm clothing on a cool night.
So when we thank God for the material blessings He has provided for us, let us not forget to also ask Him for blessings that run much deeper than the material thing of this world.

Compassion

Posted by rvanterve in Untagged

Hello Grade 8 Class!

We are off to a great start to the school year.   I have been impressed with how you cooperate with each other and work hard to accomplish any task you are given.
As we focus on compassion this month let's consider how we can care for those around us.  Ephesians 4:32 says "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."  Do you show compassion to others out on the school yard or in the cafeteria when you are with your friends?  Do you show it at how to your parents and siblings?  Do you show compassion to people it is hard to care about?
