As we consider thankfulness this month, I am amazed at how quickly we forget all the things we should be thankful for. After attending the World Concern's Conference with the Grade 7 and 8 classes, I am reminded once again of all how priviledged we are and how we as a society have been blessed materially.
There are people in the world who have no understanding of fullness, because their stomachs have never been full. There are people who have no understanding of what is means to be treated justly, because the world has not given them justice. People who do not struggle to decide what to wear to work, because they only own the clothes they are wearing.
Yet perhaps these people have something we do not. While God has blessed us with material things, others around the world have been blessed with a reliance on God that we in Western society often fail to understand. God is their "daily bread", their peace and justice, their warm clothing on a cool night.
So when we thank God for the material blessings He has provided for us, let us not forget to also ask Him for blessings that run much deeper than the material thing of this world.
