Merry Christmas!

Posted by jerrington in Untagged

The Christmas spirit was definitely in the air yesterday as 6A students celebrated with some Christmas games, a Secret Santa gift exchange, and ate some delicious treats!  It was a great way to wrap up a very busy four months as we all go our separate ways for the holidays.

I wish all 6A students and their families a very Merry Christmas and a new year full of wonderful blessings.  I'm looking forward to seeing what 2010 will bring!

Dead Sea Scrolls

Posted by jerrington in Untagged

Our class enjoyed a great day at the Royal Ontario Museum last week.  We visited the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit and learned about the history of the Old Testament.  We were treated to a wonderful guided tour and saw some parchments that had verses on it we knew!  We were also able to visit the Daphne Cockwell Gallery of Canada: First Peopels, and see many of the things we have been learning about in Social Studies.  It was a great day!

Six Traits of Writing

Posted by jerrington in Untagged

We have come to the end of our study of the first trait in our Six Traits of Writing program - IDEAS.  Students have been learning how to generate ideas, organize them, and use them to create pieces of writing on various topics.
The final assignment for this trait is due Wednesday, October 28.  With the help of graphic organizers and other pieces of writing, students are creating a story based on their biome they have have chosen.  I look forward to reading the stories and seeing some great ideas!

Signing Binders/Cycles

Posted by jerrington in Untagged

As this week began our cycle schedule, I thought I would just offer a quick reminder of how it works.  Each week students will bring home the binder and book(s) that are a part of that cycle to show parents.  Once you have had a look through your child's work, please sign the sheet at the front of the binder AND the one glued to the inside of the accompanying workbook.  The schedule will be as follows:

Cycle 1 - Blue binder and Math workbook
Cycle 2 - Green binder, Grammar book and Test Folder

Memory Verses

Posted by jerrington in Untagged

Today our class received their first memory verse.  Usually, a new memory verse will be handed out every other Monday, and students will be tested on it the following Thursday of the next week.  Our current memory verse is due next Thursday, September 17.  Students have put it in the front of their homework folders and are encouraged to review it each night, but to not forget it in the morning as we will also review it as a class every day.

Welcome to 6A!

Posted by jerrington in Untagged

Welcome back to school!  It was so nice to see many familiar faces (and a couple new ones!) around Wesley today. 6A had a great first day and I am really excited for the upcoming year.
All students brought home several important notices today, so please make sure you read them over and feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.  Also make sure you check this blog often or subscribe to it so you don't miss any new updates.

I look forward to getting to know you all better as the year progresses!
