Parents, I hope all have you received information regarding the school's new fundraising event starting right now.  Please ask your child about the oranges and grapefruit that they will be gathering orders for.  All orders with money are due back by October 21, 2009. 

It is hard to believe that October has arrived so quickly!!   This month's theme is thankfulness.  This is a good reminder to all for all we do have!! 

Our field trip to Casa Loma is on Friday, April 24. Please be sure to wear your full dress uniform and bring a bagged lunch.

We are going to do 3 oral book reports before the end of the year. Students can choose the order of the 3 types but all 3 types must be done. Our first choice will be presented on Tuesday, April 28! You should also be starting to read your second choice teacher approved book as it needs to be read for May 12.

 

"The Legend of the Poinsettia" by Grade 4B

 

We are about to begin our very first book report in fourth grade. This book is a continuation of a book they did in grade 3.

This past Friday, we read and did chapter notes for chapters 1 and 2. This was to model for students how to make chapter notes. The purpose of chapter notes is to help the student to be able to highlight the main idea or ideas in that particular chapter. These notes are quite brief as they should only be a few (2-3) sentences per chapter.

As you have noted on the calendar, I have outlined which chapters they should have read and the chapter notes that should be completed. Students are allowed to work ahead and do chapters further ahead as they may have extra curricular activities on some evenings that I've assigned. All chapter notes and readings should be completed by Monday, October 14. We will then take time in class to work on the rough draft of our book report.

 

 

It's hard to believe that school is already underway for another year! I am looking forward to getting to know each student better and my goal for each one is to help them to become the best they can be!!
